World’s Top Construction Equipment Manufacturers 2022

When you need to get a project done, you can depend on the best available OEMs on the market. To help you on the way, here are not only Omnia Machinery’s but the world’s top 10 construction equipment manufacturers to know before you buy.

Caterpillar

Founded on thanksgiving in 1904, Caterpillar is now the world’s largest construction equipment manufacturer with sales of US $32 billion, which equates to 13.8% of the list’s total amount. They continue to sit at the top of the Yellow Table. Caterpillar produces a varied range of construction equipment including excavators, wheeled loaders, skid steer loaders, motor graders, backhoe loaders, hauling trucks and more.

But did you know the name originates from 1905 when their company photographer noted that the machine crawled like a big “Caterpillar”?  Little did he know that this would change the construction machinery sector for decades to come.

Komatsu

Up next is Komatsu, which is the world’s second-largest supplier of construction and mining equipment with sales of US$25.3 billion, a substantial increase from last year’s sales of US$19.9 billion. Komatsu sells their equipment around the globe; however, the company has a particularly strong standing in its home market, Japan.

Komatsu came after Caterpillar but not by much, it was in 1917 when Takeuchi Mining Industry established Komatsu for the sole purpose of manufacturing machine tools and mining equipment for in-house use.

XCMG

Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group (XCMG) is the largest construction equipment supplier in China and the third largest in the world. XCMG has had a  strong rise up the table in recent years and had sales of US$18.1 billion in 2021.

Sany

Next up is Sany Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. They are the second Chinese company in the top ten of the Yellow Table. Sany had sales of US$16 billion, up from US$14.4 billion from last year’s list. They do offer a wide product range but are particularly known for their excavators.

John Deere

Deere and Company manufacture agricultural, construction, forestry machinery and more under the John Deere brand. In 2022 the company climbed a place on the list with sales of US$11.3 billion. Deere’s purchase of Wirtgen Group in 2017, helped boost its sales year-on-year. However, it is reported that their popular green machines will have helped them move up one spot this year.

The company was founded in 1836 when John Deere designed one of the first steel plows that could till American Midwest prairie soil without clogging.

Volvo

Volvo Construction Equipment experienced strong sales of US$10.7 billion to see it rise a place on the table. Like most European organizations, the pandemic badly impacted sales, so to climb up a space this year was very pleasing for the company. Volvo CE is one of the leading OEMs supplying electrical equipment.
